Officer Brandon Gilmore (K-9 handler)

Officer Teddy (K-9)

We started out on the road together on April 01, 2001 after the departure of the previous K-9 handler and a three-week long training period. Teddy is a Malinois that was bred in the United States, though his parents are from Holland. Teddy is 6.5 years old. We are members of the U.S.P.C.A. (United States Police Canine Association). Teddy is nationally certified in narcotics and tracking through that association.  Teddy can detect all major narcotics from less than a gram to pounds. He can also find articles in an open field as small as a quarter. We certify every year on the tracking and narcotics. We train every day even if it is only ten minutes. The state requires that we train 14 hours per month. We train along with Maggie Valley K-9 and Haywood County K-9, as well as with the NC Wildlife’s K-9 teams.
